Majority Leader of the Senate U.S. Senator Harry Reid
To be Honored for Extraordinary Support of the Arts

Las Vegas, NV, September 18, 2009 -- Nevada Arts Advocates (NAA), a nonprofit 501 (C-3) statewide organization dedicated to supporting cultural, fine and performing arts in the state of Nevada, is pleased to announce its 12th annual Nevada Arts Advocates Gala on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with a Silent Auction and Cocktail Reception, following by dinner, an awards program. Entertainment will be provided Larry Hart, a Grammy winning recording artist, producer and director of the concert "Praise" and the theatre musical "Sisterella."
NAA will present its Art Advocacy Award to U.S. Senator Harry Reid for his extraordinary support of the National and local arts programs. During 2009, Senator Reid successfully fought to increase funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and ensured the 2009 Economic Recovery Package included $50M for the NEA.
Senator Reid also prevented Museums and Cultural organizations from being excluded from Stimulus Funding; directed Federal Appropriations to Nevada Arts and Cultural Facilities, including over $400,000 to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts for their K-12 Arts Education Program; and hosted Grant Workshops to educate Nevadans about Grand Funding Opportunities for the arts.
NAA exists to encourage Nevadans to participate in and enjoy the arts. The organization develops and supports cultural and educational activities designed to sustain funding and foster appreciation of the arts. NAA also works to expand and enhance access to arts opportunities through public awareness, advocacy and outreach.
The NAA strongly encourages arts advocates to attend the gala and invite their respective legislators. The price for reservations is $100 per person. For details, sponsorship opportunities or to donate a silent auction item, call 702-362-8885 or send us an e-mail at: nvartsadvocates@earthlink.net

Nevada Arts Advocates Hosts 11th Annual Arts Day
All Concerned Arts Advocates Meet with Legislators!
Nevada Arts Advocates (NAA), a nonprofit 501
(c) (3) statewide organization, designed to encourage Nevadans to participate in and enjoy the arts, hosted the 11th Annual Arts Day in Nevada on Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Carson City. Sponsors for Arts Day were Cox Communications, Embarq, IGT, Sierra Arts and Wells Fargo. Additional support was provided by Monica Kales, Abbey Manto, the Nevada Arts Council, R & R Live and the Washoe School District.
Arts Day was held at the Legislative Building in Carson City. NAA registered guests arrived by 10:30 a.m. to sit with their assigned legislators for the morning legislative session. Following the session, NAA hosted a luncheon in honor of Nevada Legislators at the Carson Nugget.
The keynote speaker was Bob Lynch, CEO and president of Americans for the Arts in Washington, D.C. Registered guests also participated in a workshop facilitated by Jay Dick, director of State and Government Affairs of Americans for the Arts. The registration cost was just $35.
NAA urged all concerned patrons of the arts to attend this special event, which was designed to bring art supporters and representatives of the arts from all the communities of Nevada to Carson City during the Legislative Session. Arts proponents were encouraged to speak directly with legislators to let them know that they strongly support public funding for the arts and arts education in Nevada.
Members of the Nevada State Legislature were invited to join the Nevada Arts Caucus, originally founded by U.S. Congresswoman Dina Titus. Current Arts Caucus leaders are Assembly Chair and Speaker Barbara Buckley and Co-Vice Chair Mark Manendo. NAA works closely with the Nevada Arts Caucus to increase art funding to the Nevada Arts Council and distributes funds through grants provided by the Nevada Arts Council.
NAA works to enhance access to arts opportunities through public awareness, advocacy and outreach. Throughout the year, NAA hosts Arts Awareness Luncheons to provide local artists, arts organizations, legislators and art patrons the opportunity to network and hear speakers on a range of subjects. NAA sponsors an Awards Gala to recognize individuals and corporations for their support.
